At some stage, that event will happen. The experts\u2019 opinions are divided on the exact timing of the market low.<\/p>\n

And unfortunately, I don\u2019t have that information\u2026\u2026but it did make you read further!<\/p>\n

Hooking and teasing to get the listener\u2019s attention and interest has been part of radio programming philosophy for many decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cKeep them listening through the ad break!\u201d<\/p>\n

But as you and I both know, there are some presenters who hook and tease brilliantly with great creativity and there are others who\u2026.well\u2026their idea of a creative hook and tease through an ad break is\u2026\u201dcoming up next Ed Sheeran\u201d. Yeh\u2026\u2026overwhelming isn\u2019t it.<\/p>\n

So here I am recently watching the 6pm news on one of the commercial TV stations and the newsreader crosses to the weather girl (sorry\u2026person) who says \u201cstay around because coming up next I\u2019ll tell you how warm it will be tomorrow\u201d.<\/p>\n

Wow, I thought. Have I accidentally time traveled back to 1989? No, its still 2019. And look, there\u2019s an app on my smartphone that tells me tomorrow\u2019s maximum temperature NOW. I don\u2019t have to sit around waiting for the weather girl\/person to tell me.<\/p>\n

As an effective hook and tease through the ad break it was a massive fail.<\/p>\n

Just like your presenter\u2019s burst of alleged creativity with\u2026\u2026 \u201ccoming up next Ed Sheeran\u201d.<\/p>\n

Teasing is an age-old method of arousing interest by creating a momentary uncertainty then resolving that uncertainty\u2026\u2026.\u201cWho is the artist\/song they\u2019re talking about?\u201d The good thing about radio is the \u201cuncertainty\u201d, as far the next song goes, usually lasts for the duration of the ad break. But for a big promotion, the biggest exclusive interview of the year, the reveal might take a few days. Make the most of it when you can!<\/p>\n

Hooking and teasing is a powerful and creative weapon for both the on air and promotional teams.<\/p>\n

As a program\/content director ensure everyone on your team is using it effectively.<\/p>\n

And by the way, if you do know the exact date of when the stock market will bottom out\u2026..please let me know!<\/p>\n
