The decade gave us big hair, shoulder pads, Madonna, U2 and \u2026\u2026. the concept of \u201ccontinuous improvement\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuous improvement was an integral part of global business culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The central idea was that you always wanted to get better\u2026\u2026to improve\nyour product, continually reflect what the market wanted, improve processes and\nsystems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You would constantly strive to be the best in your competitor set. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a concept that remains extremely relevant today. If you are not\nimproving, you are going to fall behind. If you stay as you are, people are\ngoing to pass you by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note: The concept is not about change for change\u2019s sake\u2026. It\u2019s\nabout IMPROVEMENT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s face it \u2026. thing\u2019s change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Music tastes change\u2026\u2026\u2026Guy Zapoleon\u2019s Music Cycles provides an excellent historical explanation. <\/li><li>Listeners\u2019 attitudes towards talent change\u2026.as does the talents\u2019 ability to communicate effectively with the same audience year after year.<\/li><li>Promotions\/contests that may have resonated five years ago now only draw a \u2026. \u201dho hum, not again\u201d from the audience.<\/li><li>From a sales perspective, the overall advertising spend on media can get hot or cold and your station has to respond accordingly.<\/li><li>A new competitor enters the marketplace. And I\u2019m not just talking about a radio station\u2026. think YouTube, Spotify etc. <\/li><li>Listener needs and wants evolve as well.
