It includes a person&#8217;s perceptions of\u00a0utility,\u00a0ease of use and\u00a0efficiency. Improving user experience is important to companies when creating and refining products because negative user experience can diminish the use of the product and, therefore, create lasting negative brand images. User experience is\u00a0subjective but the attributes that make up the user experience are\u00a0objective.<\/p>\n<p>In short, UX is all about how you can make the experience of the listeners to your radio station as meaningful and valuable as possible.<\/p>\n<p>As an example, let\u2019s look at station websites. We\u2019ve all seen radio station websites that are too busy, too cheap looking, too clumsy, too hard to navigate\u2026in other words a poor UX. We\u2019ve also seen those that provide a great UX.<\/p>\n<p>Consider the websites of the \u201cBig Four\u201d\u2026.. KPMG, EY, Deloitte and PwC. These are <em>huge<\/em> global consultancy firms with a lot of money to spend on designing a website. Yet all four websites have a very different look and feel. All four websites have a very different UX.<\/p>\n<p>A good user experience for a radio station would mean that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the listener visited your website;<\/li>\n<li>scrolled through the different pages;<\/li>\n<li>understood what the website is all about; and<\/li>\n<li>found what they wanted with ease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s the UX of your station\u2019s website?<\/p>\n<p>One way of finding out is to use Google Analytics which can reveal metrics such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users<\/li>\n<li>New users<\/li>\n<li>Sessions<\/li>\n<li>Pageviews<\/li>\n<li>Bounce rate<\/li>\n<li>Average session duration<\/li>\n<li>Average time on page<\/li>\n<li>Amount of new vs. returning visitors<\/li>\n<li>Devices used<\/li>\n<li>Sessions by Geo Location<\/li>\n<li>Clicks<\/li>\n<li>Opens (newsletter)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other tools used to measure engagement are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hello Bar<\/li>\n<li>Web Engage<\/li>\n<li>iPaper Displays<\/li>\n<li>HubSpot<\/li>\n<li>Optimizely<\/li>\n<li>Marketo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, sometimes measuring your website\u2019s UX is as simple as getting everyone at the station to access the website and see what experience they had in finding what they were looking for\u2026.. celebrity news &amp; gossip, podcasts, contests, show information etc\u2026. and how satisfied they were with the result.<\/p>\n<p>The next step would be to do a short survey on the website and gauge listeners\u2019 opinions.<\/p>\n<p>There are many factors that can influence UX which in turn can impact your station\u2019s brand image. They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Value<\/strong>: Does your online content make their time spent on the website worthwhile?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Usability<\/strong>: Is your website easy to use and navigate?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Usefulness<\/strong>: Does your website satisfy listeners\u2019 needs?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Desirable<\/strong>: Does the station website strike an emotional chord with the listener?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Credible<\/strong>: Does your website support your overall brand promise?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t take it for granted that your station has the best website possible.
