From one Danish artist\u2019s point of view, it\u2019s pocketing 534,000 kroner in commission ($115,000 in Australian money) from a museum.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the Kunsten Museum of Art in Aalborg, Denmark paid artist Jens Haaning in advance to re-create two older paintings. Instead, he kept the money without doing the job and called it conceptual art.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3522\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bprworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/art.jpg?resize=516%2C344\" alt=\"\" width=\"516\" height=\"344\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bprworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/art.jpg?resize=300%2C200 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bprworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/art.jpg?resize=1024%2C682 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bprworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/art.jpg?resize=768%2C512 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bprworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/art.jpg?w=1379 1379w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 516px) 100vw, 516px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Haaning labelled his art as <em>Take the Money and Run <\/em>and it\u2019s simply two blank whiteboard frames without anything on them.<\/p>\n<p>Haaning rationalised his artwork this way:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work is that I have taken their money,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not theft. It is a breach of contract and breach of contract is part of the work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The museum is actually displaying the two empty frames on display in its ongoing art show <em>Work it Out<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Breach of contract or not\u2026.. that\u2019s thinking outside the box (or the square)!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important for those in radio (or in any business) to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective; not just to confront every issue with the same problem-solving processes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Inside the box&#8221; is analogous with the current assumptions about a situation. Creative thinking acknowledges and rejects the accepted paradigm so as to generate new ideas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOutside the box\u201d pushes us to explore ideas that are creative and unusual and that are not limited or controlled by rules or tradition.<\/p>\n<p>When asked the question \u201cWhy do you do it that way?\u201d\u2026 we have all heard someone say \u201dBecause that\u2019s the way we\u2019ve always done it\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Well, perhaps next time challenge them to think outside the box for a new, better way of doing things.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By David Kidd, BPR What is art, anyway?
