{"id":6229,"date":"2024-08-09T13:26:20","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T03:26:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bprworld.com\/?p=6229"},"modified":"2025-12-05T13:19:30","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T02:19:30","slug":"getting-new-music-heard-what-role-does-radio-play-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bprworld.com\/de\/news\/getting-new-music-heard-what-role-does-radio-play-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting New Music Heard: What Role Does Radio Play Today?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With no TV music programs showcasing new releases anymore, getting your song played on commercial radio sure ain\u2019t what it used to be.<\/p>\n<p>We now live in a world where there are more options than ever to see and hear new music, but for many musicians, it has never felt more invisible.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a problem challenging artists from every corner of the musical landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Could radio be the saviour?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Natalie Gauci<\/strong> won <strong>Australian Idol. <\/strong>And yet, her latest album <strong>Brand New Day<\/strong> is bypassing streaming platforms, as she reveals on the latest episode of<a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/au\/podcast\/life-of-brian-mannix-that-is\/id1516559387\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <strong>Life of Brian \u2026 Mannix that is <\/strong>podcast:<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is so much music on <strong>Spotify, iTunes<\/strong> and everything else,\u201d Natalie says. \u201cI decided not to go on the social media platforms. I am just going to have physical copies and digital copies via <strong>Bandcamp<\/strong> and my website.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Imagine what it\u2019s like if your music does not fall into a mainstream genre.<\/p>\n<p>First Nations artist <strong>Mitch Tambo<\/strong> knows that only too well.<\/p>\n<p>Mitch has long been a supporter of regional and community radio and considers it the heartland of Australian music and stories.<\/p>\n<p>Mitch rallied behind community radio during a recent visit to Victorian station <strong>3MDR<\/strong> in <strong>Upwey.<\/strong> As well as being passionate about language artists getting their songs heard on radio, Mitch is all about backing in local talent and staying connected to the local community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the industry continues to evolve and social media platforms become our go-to for daily news and music consumption, keep supporting local radio,\u201d he urged his fans.<\/p>\n<p>Mitch this week released his latest music project, which puts a new spin on one of the world\u2019s most ancient instruments, the didgeridoo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tambo Jamz Vol.1<\/strong> is a unique collection of instrumental soundscapes which defy genre boundaries and celebrate cultural diversity.<\/p>\n<p>Radio interviews have been a big part of Mitch\u2019s schedule of late, from <strong>Ballarat\u2019s Power FM<\/strong> to local <strong>ABC<\/strong> stations in<strong> Shepparton, Mildura, Swan Hill <\/strong>and <strong>Victoria\u2019s Central West, <\/strong>as well as <strong>ABC Radio Sydney<\/strong>, where he performed a live off-the-cuff song during his studio chat with <strong>Sarah Macdonald.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A qualified social worker, Mitch has also been the voice and ambassador for the national radio community\u2019s mental health initiative, having been an integral part of <strong>Triple M\u2019s No Talk Day<\/strong> and <strong>Courageous Talk Roundtable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a<a href=\"https:\/\/radiotoday.com.au\/mitch-tambo-on-radio-finding-its-voice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <strong>Radio Today<\/strong> article last year<\/a>, Mitch told of his gratitude for the stations which play his music and talked about the importance of radio \u2018finding its voice.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cTo all the stations that continue to celebrate the difference in my music and play a role in creating a new tomorrow, I salute you.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been a busy time for Mitch, who in April launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walanbaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Walanbaa Youth Tour<\/strong>,<\/a> visiting schools, learning centres and youth hubs, performing and delivering workshops for students and educators alike.<\/p>\n<p>His mission?
