I know that this may come as a shock but read on.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the six mistakes that programmers should avoid when coaching the air staff:<\/p>\n<h5>What we tell moderators:<\/h5>\n<p>Limit your talk segments to :30. Don\u2019t risk losing a listener.<\/p>\n<h5>What we <strong>should<\/strong> be telling them:<\/h5>\n<p>Talk as long as you\u2019re more entertaining than the next song.<\/p>\n<h5>What we tell moderators:<\/h5>\n<p>Don\u2019t talk about yourself.<\/p>\n<h5>What we <strong>should<\/strong> be telling them:<\/h5>\n<p>Use relatable, interesting life experiences to create content and build your brand.<\/p>\n<h5>What we tell moderators:<\/h5>\n<p>The ratings are inaccurate and are unreliable.<\/p>\n<h5>What we <strong>should<\/strong> be telling them:<\/h5>\n<p>I\u2019ll show you how the ratings work, and how the measurement system impacts our station and your show.<\/p>\n<h5>What we tell moderators:<\/h5>\n<p>Read the script or liner card just the way it\u2019s written.<\/p>\n<h5>What we <strong>should<\/strong> be telling them:<\/h5>\n<p>Here are the basic facts \u2013 find creative and relatable ways to communicate to them with entertainment value.<\/p>\n<h5>What we tell moderators:<\/h5>\n<p>We\u2019re not playing that song \u2013 it\u2019s a bomb.<\/p>\n<h5>What we <strong>should<\/strong> be telling them:<\/h5>\n<p>We conduct music research that\u2019s a barometer of how our audience feels about songs. Here\u2019s how the system works, so you understand why we play <em>and <\/em>why we don\u2019t play songs.<\/p>\n<h5>What we say to moderators:<\/h5>\n<p>We\u2019re doing it because corporate\/the consultant\/the new owners are making us do it.<\/p>\n<h5>What we <strong>should<\/strong> be telling them:<\/h5>\n<p>We\u2019re doing it because our team worked together to carve out this strategy. Let\u2019s give it a chance to work.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, <strong>stop treating the air talent like children but rather as adult professionals<\/strong>.
