This article is the final one in a six-part series.
The real value in strategic thinking isn’t just in generating ideas or in making better decisions: it’s about building a framework that future-proofs your radio station and provides you with the best chance of achieving long-term success.
Here’s the next tip on how to become a better strategic thinker.
Step 6. Make Decisions.
Strategy is not just about thinking; it’s also about executing. In other words, there comes a time to stop planning and actually make a decision!
Once you’ve started generating ideas and making connections between them, you’ll have to start making decisions about what to do next. And because you’re a busy radio executive probably limited by time and/or resources, that means prioritising.
To execute your strategy to perfection, you may have to abandon something you’re currently doing.
Remember, the worst thing you can do is to allow your strategic thinking to go to waste because you haven’t been able to make a decision about what to do.
Finally a quote from former US President, Theodore Roosevelt: “In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”
